Creating a website from start to finish

In this guide you will learn how to create a website in RevasOS and set it up.

Create a new website

  1. Open the Websties app in your RevasOS environment
  2. In the Dashboard click on the "+ Add Website" button located in the top-right corner
  3. In the pop-up window insert the name and language in the format (en-us) in the corresponding fields
  4. click "Save"

After that the website editor's will open, the app is composed of a few sections that allow for the complete control over the website. The first section called "Quick actions" is the one that will open by default when entering the website editor. It includes the main actions you might want to perform more frequently to edit the website's behaviour. On the top of the page there might be a banner indicaing things that require your attentions such as unpublished changes or security concerns. On the left side there is a sidebar containing all the sections needed for the website's setup and configuration.

Set up the website's structure

The first thing you need to do is to set up the website structure by adding new pages. You can think of pages as being the different areas of your website that the user will then need to navigate. In this phase it is crucial to have a clear general structure in mind and to know which areas your wesite must include. A well-structured website makes for a great user experience if the structure is intuitive and clearly understandable by the end user.

Adding and managing pages

This part of the guide will focus on adding a new page to a website and on its in-depth configuration, if you want instead to quickly add a page to an existing website you can refer to the add a page quick guide. To manage the structure of the website and add more pages open the pages section of the editor by clicking on "Pages" in the left sidebar. After creating a new website there will already be a pre-made "Homepage" that can be edited by clicking on it.

Adding a new page

To add a new page:

  1. Click on the "+ New page" button.
  2. Inside the pop-up insert the title and description of the new page, these informations will be used for SEO indexing.
    • Click "Save" if you just want to keep adding new pages and set them up later on
    • Click "Save and edit" if you want to continue editing the new page

Editing a page

The page editor that opens up is composed of two main sections:

  • on the left there is a visual representation of how your page will appear in Google search results and on the tab of a web browser. These infos are pulled from the metadata of the page.
    To edit them follow these steps:
    1. Click on the "Settings" button on the top of the page editor
    2. Select "Metadata" form the menu that appears
    3. Click "Save" in the top-right corner

Deleting a page

If you have created a page by mistake or if you no longer need a specific area in the website you can delete a page by following these steps:

  1. Click on "Settings" on the top-right of the page editor;
  2. Click on "Advanced operations" in the pop-up menu;
  3. Click on "Delete this page";

Warning:

This operation is final and cannot be undone.

Managing blocks

By clicking on a block the block editor will open, inside it you can manage all the details of the block and edit its content. The block editor is composed of a top bar in which you can change the block-type and link a blog preview. In the central section of the block-editor the block items will be displayed, please remember that this view does not act as a visual preview of how the end user will see the blocks and that different block types and website themes might display items in a different way.

Another way of managing the way content is displayed on a page is to change the order of the blocks, to do that:

  1. Close all block editors and move to the page editor view;
  2. Locate th block you want to move;
  3. By using the arrows on the left side of the block card, rearrange the blocks;
