Creating Marketing Goals for Your Website
A website is an essential tool for supporting your communication and business goals. Defining clear goals for your website is the first step to turning it into an effective marketing resource. Each website can have different purposes, depending on the area of activity and the needs of your business. In this guide, you will learn how to use the features of your website to achieve those goals.

Setting Website Goals
A website's marketing goals are based on communication goals, which in turn support business goals. Here are some examples for different areas:
Online Sales
- Business Goal: Increase sales of products or services.
- Communication Goal: Promote a specific product or encourage purchase.
- Example: "Buy now with a 20% discount!"
Nonprofit
- Business objective: Increase donations or recruit volunteers.
- Communication objective: Raise awareness of a cause.
- Example: "Volunteer today and make a difference."
Professional Services
- Business objective: Generate qualified leads.
- Communication objective: Communicate the experience and value of the offer.
- Example: "Book a free consultation."
How to identify site objectives
- What do you want to achieve?
- Define the desired outcome (e.g. more sales, more signups, more inquiries).
- Example: "I want to increase newsletter signups by 20%."
- Who is your audience?
- Identify the segment of users you want to focus on.
- Example: "Freelancers interested in simplified management tools."
- Where can the objectives be placed?
- Choose the strategic point on the site to position your objectives:
- Main Action: Ideal for the homepage or landing pages.
- Notification: Perfect for quick and targeted communications, visible on all pages.
- Featured Section: Excellent for promoting key elements on high-traffic pages.
Add objectives to the site
Once you have defined the type of objective, you can create the related button, banner or section on your site to link them to.
Main Action
The main action is the main call to action (CTA) of your site. It must be clear, visible and directly linked to the marketing objective.
Examples:
- "Subscribe to the newsletter" to increase the contact list.
- "Learn more" to direct traffic to a specific page.
How to add a main action
Go to the Websites app Dashboard, you can find the Websites app in the store.
- Search for the website you want to add the page to;
- Click Edit inside the language of the site where you want to add the page;
- Select Marketing in the left sidebar;
- Select Main Action
- Select Add it if it hasn't been added yet;
- You can change the text that will appear in your main action using the Title field
- To change the action that will be performed, choose from the drop-down menu Link, Page, Library or Content;
- Click Save to save your changes.
All changes will soon be live and available to visitors.
Warning:
If you have multiple languages for your websites, you will need to make the same changes to all languages. Simply select the desired language in step 1.

Notification
Notifications can be used for short, targeted communications. They are especially useful for:
- Announcing limited-time offers.
- Informing users about important updates or changes.
Examples:
- "Free shipping on orders over $50."
- "The site will be under maintenance from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM."
How to add a notification
Go to the Websites app Dashboard, you can find the Websites app in the store.
Search for the website you want to add the page to;
Click Edit inside the language of the site where you want to add the page;
Select Marketing in the left sidebar;
Select Notification
Select Add it if it has not been added yet;
Edit the parameters you want to include in your notification such as Title, Description or add links to pages, content or libraries.
Click Save to save the changes.
All changes will soon be live and available for visitors.
Featured Section
The featured section allows you to highlight important elements of your site, such as:
- Seasonal promotions.
- Recent projects or initiatives.
- Customer testimonials.
Examples:
- "Discover our environmental project."
- "Our customers love us – read their stories."
How to add a featured section
- Search for the website you want to add the page to;
- Click Edit inside the language of the site where you want to add the page;
- Select Marketing in the left sidebar;
- Select Featured Section
- Select Add it if it hasn't been added yet;
- Edit the parameters you want to include in your featured section such as Title, Description or add links to pages, content or libraries;
You can also add images or videos from those already published using the appropriate button;
- Click Save to save the changes.
All the changes will soon be online and available for visitors.
